Windrush Memoirs: Perspectives, the Windrush Ge
On 22nd June 1948, 500 migrants from the Caribbean arrived at Tilbury Docks, Essex, aboard the MV Empire Windrush. Since this historical moment ‘Windrush’ is the name that has been applied to this first generation of Caribbean migrants who moved to the UK in the late 1940s through to 60s, and who not only re-built but also enriched post-war Britain. Salford City Council together with the University of Salford's Ruby Ramelize & Emma Barnes, are hosting a free event that celebrates and commemorates the Windrush generation and their valuable contribution to British society. The evening will include talks, presentations, live performances and Caribbean cuisine. Check out our social media page via Facebook and my documentary blog post via Wordpress, below.
